Congkak






Congkak is a Malay traditional game using wooden boards with holes or holes in the ground and the fruit of seeds wrapped in cellophane, rubber seeds, marbles, and others. In the northern peninsula is called the Jongkok . It is believed that the game originated in Malacca Kingdom where it became very popular and spread to the South East Asia region. This spread was due to the many travelers who visited the kingdom because it was a trading city. In the early days, it was thought that this game was for the king and family and palace residents, however later it spread to the general population of the kingdom.Normally the game are played by the women, especially liked by the youths. 

It is made up of wood of a tree trunk carved as the boat. To the ends of the carved heads of various animals such as birds, while the body is divided board inscribed with the various Malay carving. Typically it is made from forest wood, such as merbau, and Keruing. Congkak also produced from metal or soil in rural areas .


The Congkak board has fourteen holes in two sets of seven, plus an additional store for each player. Each player controls the seven holes on their side of the board, and their score is the number of seeds in their left-hand store. The pieces are 98 undifferentiated seeds .Seven seeds are placed in each hole except the stores, which remain empty. The objective of the game is to gather as many congkak seeds into the 'storehouses' on the player's side. It is a game which is played during one’s free time .
